Why Solar Pool Lights

Solar lights for pools are the trend nowadays, you will almost always see them in every new movie pool scene. Getting self-sufficient pool lights will let you control the mood around your pool, lawn, or your inground pool.

Thus, let us introduce the top four reasons on why you should get a solar pool light:

1. Energy Efficient

Solar powered pool lights run on clean renewable solar energy as they use the -free- solar radiation and store it as energy for later usage.

In other words, you don’t have to worry about increment in your electricity bill anymore.

2. Stylish

Solar lights are a very stylish and innovative way to decorate your pool, garden, or you can even use solar pool lights for inground pools to add a cozy warm feeling to the atmosphere of the place.

3. Fun and Children Friendly

Pool lights are fun and you can safely swim around them. Also, they add to the excitement and keep your place looking fresh and glowing.

4. Make your Home More Livable

A personal favorite is when I go to read outside, the pool lights keep my company, and I tend to read more when I sit outside.

Solar Pool Lights Types

Solar powered pool lights are divided into two types, floating solar pool lights and underwater solar pool lights.

While the names are self-explanatory, they are not that straight forward, thus many don’t know which solar pool light gets and uses, after all, we are here to help you choose.

So, let’s dive deep -pun intended, you know pools, diving, you get it- and elaborate on the solar pool lights’ types:

  • Floating solar pool lights: The name is a bit deceiving as most – if not all- solar powered pool lights float on the surface of the water. This type of pool lights illuminate the whole area around itself, light bursts out of every angle around it, thus it looks like it’s floating.
  • Underwater solar pool lights: They work on the same basis, they store solar energy at day, and they light the place up at night. The difference between it and floating solar lights is that the underwater solar lights are best suited for parties and similar events, they decorate the bottom of the pool, bathing it with colorful patterns of light.

Fun fact: Some of the underwater solar lights and floating solar lights do submerge underwater, creating a different ambient and mood.

How Did We Choose, And What Factors Should You Consider Before Buying

The market is filled with solar lights of varying kinds, prices, brands, and looks.

However, there are solid pillars where we center our choices on, and in this section, we will go through some of the most important considerations to look for before buying.

1. Weatherproof

First -and most important- is that all of the products we choose are weatherproof, by going with weatherproof solar powered pool lights we expect less maintenance and longer product life.

2. Brand Reputation and Warranty

Secondly, the brand and its warranty are of utmost importance to us, we would never recommend a product unless it’s authentic and premium.

We know that there is no such thing as a perfect product, but we side with quality all the time.

We invest in researching the most popular solar powered pool lights in the market today, we personally own some of them, but we need to expand the array of choices available.

3. Budget and Quality Vs. Price

Always put your budget into consideration, you should first set a range of how much you would spend on the solar pool lights for inground pools, hence reducing the options available.

Buying the cheapest pool light only to last for a week or so, is not the wisest investment.

You should always balance quality with price, we assure you a range of the highest quality products, from the safest online stores worldwide, all you have to do is to determine your budget.

4. Charge Time Vs. Run Time

We’ve also -highly- considered the battery capacity, running time, and the lumens (Light intensity).

You don’t want to get a solar pool light to find out it needs to charge the battery for 12 hours, just to work for 3 hours, merely.

Ideally, you want a high capacity, long-running time solar pool light.

5. Lumens (Brightness)

There is no such thing as the perfect lumen. Different light brightness can be used for different purposes.

For example, if you are looking for solar powered pool lights for inground pools, then you might go for a bright and vibrant light to cover a lot of areas.

On the other hand, if you want a solar light for your lawn, then more likely you want it to be cozy and chill.

When it comes to lumens, it’s pretty situational, so it’s up to you to choose the best lumens that will suit your needs.

Best Solar Powered Pool Lights Selection

We’ve researched thousands of products just to come up with the absolute best solar pool lights on the 2020 market.

Personally, my solar pool light isn’t even part of the top 5 – we all make mistakes, right?

With many products on the market, and as we want to give you no space to make mistakes, here are our top 6 best solar powered pool lights for this year.

Without further ado, let’s jump to our first product on the list.

1. Esuper Solar Floating Ball Pool Lights

Esuper Floating Ball Pool Light Solar Powered 4 PCS, 14 Inch Inflatable Hangable IP68 Waterproof Rechargeable 4 Color Changing Led Glow Globe Pool Night Lamp for Garden, Backyard,Pond, Party Decor

You will almost always opt for smaller solar powered pool lights, therefore we have the 14” Esuper floating pool lights.

Esuper ball pool lights offer 4 primary colors that change once every 15 seconds, you can rotate them using a switch, but there is no option for consistent coloring, sadly.

Esuper Solar Floating Light comes with a loop on the bottom, so you can hang it on a hook or a pole to light up the whole area.

You will find that most other floating solar pool lights come with such a loop. They are Vinyl which you may have lived through the vinyl era or not, but it’s better than hard plastic and sturdy enough.

Being inflatable – in my opinion- gives the Esuper 14” floating pool lights a certain mood, the way the wind caresses the ever-changing light at night is certainly something to watch.

However, some people shouldn’t opt for it, especially if they tend to live in a stormy area, as they should always go for a heavier model, or at least hang it on a pole or a tree.

Also, it’s super easy to use, you simply inflate it and put it in the desired area and voila “Let there be light” as they work automatically at night or dark areas.

Something to be noticed, being an inflatable solar pool light makes it easier to store as it’s space wise, therefore you simply deflate it and put it back in the package, till later use.

Pros

  • IP68 waterproof and weatherproof.
  • Inflatable and lightweight.
  • Up to 8 hours of working time.
  • Versatile where it comes to placement.
  • Easy to store

Cons

  • Limited colors and patterns.
  • Being lightweight doesn’t encourage using it in stormy areas.

2. HAPIKAY Solar Powered Floating Pool Lights

HAPIKAY Solar Floating Pool Lights - Pack of 2 Solar Powered Color Changing 14-inch Balls - Float or Hang in Pool Garden Backyard Pond Party Decorations - Inflatable Wateproof RBG Lights Accessories

Here we have another 14” inflatable solar pool lights that are also floating.

Why is this not my first choice?

Well, it is because of its low light intensity. Don’t get me wrong, Hapikay lights are absolutely amazing and have beautiful and vibrant colors.

However, I prefer the higher lumen lights, especially because I have a pretty large pool.

The Hapikay ball pool lights have 7 colors LED RGB with a 25 seconds delay between color change, which leaves more excitement to be desired, therefore, it’s suggested to be used in a relaxing manner and less of a glamorous way.

I’m not saying it’s not gonna grab the attention of everyone in the party, but it’s my two cents on it, there are more exciting pool lights out there.

The HAPIKAY 14” Solar Floating Pool Lights also work out of the box, just inflate and let them charge for a while in the sun, then enjoy up to 8 hours of mesmerizing view.

Refunds and replacements are guaranteed with this one, but we know that you will like it for sure, even if you had an accident where you need to patch it up, they got you covered with a repair kit.

Pros

  • IP68 waterproof and weatherproof.
  • Includes a repair patch kit, even though it’s very durable.
  • Up to 8 hours of working time.
  • Can be placed or hanged anywhere.
  • More color options.

Cons

  • Could be brighter.
  • The 25 seconds color-changing duration is a bit too long.

3. Cootway Solar Floating Lights For Pools

Cootway Floating Pool Lights Inflatable 2PCS,Solar & USB Powered 14" LED Balls IP68 Waterproof Led Glow Globe,4 Steady Color & Color Changing Night Mood Light,Bright Colorful Light for Garden,Backyard

Have to give it to them, this is the most innovative solar pool light on the market.

In addition to the solar panels, they allow you to use USB to charge it up for those times where you need to have the cozy atmosphere they offer indoors, you can use it at home or even in your bathtub, and this is truly genius in my opinion.

One extra benefit of having a USB charger is it allows you to use the Cootway Lights even on stormy or rainy days with no sun.

It’s important to mention that this one is also inflatable, thus, it’s suggested to hang it steady in stormy weather.

These high vibrancy solar powered pool lights are extremely pleasing to the eye. Therefore, I would highly recommend it for parties and if you are not into the high lumens.

Moreover, they have a night mode which in my opinion makes it great to use as a nightlight for kids’ room.

Pros

  • IP68 waterproof and weatherproof.
  • The USB charging capability.
  • High light intensity (Lumens), maybe the brightest on the market.
  • Available in 2 sizes: 14” and 17X12”
  • Very beautiful bright colors, and two moods of lighting.
  • Can set it to a certain color.

Cons

  • Scarce, as there is a high demand for it.

4. SOLMORE Solar Inground Pool Lights

SOLMORE 4 Pack Solar Deck Lights LED Dock Light Solar Lights Step Road Path Light Waterproof Security Warning Driveway Lights for Outdoor Pool Fence Patio Yard Home Pathway Stairs Garden (Blue)

This time we have something a bit different, it’s a deck light. Nevertheless, its silver color effortlessly blends in any environment, combining the utility of the solar inground pool lights and deck lights.

The materials are pretty good, they can withstand even the mightiest blows, and the battery cover is extremely sturdy. One thing to notice is that the batteries are irreplaceable.

The Solmore Solar inground pool Lights can be screwed into the ground, the fence, or even the cage of the pool.

To be honest, they are beautiful to see but they don’t put up a show like the others.

On the other hand, they offer more formality and classy to the place and work extremely great as driveway lights.

The lights level of intensity is so high that leaves nothing to be desired, despite having high lumens for a solar inground light.

What really bothered me is that it only lights in two directions, it would’ve been better if the LEDs circled the Lights.

Pros

  • IP68 waterproof and weatherproof.
  • High-quality durable aluminum frame.
  • Powerful light intensity.
  • Very modern and formal appearance.

Cons

  • Isn’t versatile when it comes to placement.
  • Doesn’t light all around it, only in two directions.
  • Irreplaceable battery,

5. POP Floating Globe Pool Lights

2-PK Floating Pool Lights, 12" Globes, 4 Color Settings, Solar LED Balls, Inflatable, Waterproof, Floatable, Hangable, Night Mood Lights-Sphere Decorations-Pools-Backyard-Lawn-Pathways-Parties-Events

A bit smaller solar powered pool light for those who seek such thing, the POP Floating Pool Lights Is very vibrant and offers high lumens and bright colors.

What really shines -pun intended- here is that it has two solar panels instead of one, which offers improved charging efficiency thus decreasing charging times.

The white vibrancy in those Floating Pool Lights is out of this world, though the blue looks a bit too bright, it might be what you are looking for after all.

It would’ve been much better if it had a remote control. However, it still one of the best and totally worth the money.

Pros

  • IP68 waterproof and weatherproof.
  • Two solar panels for improved charging.
  • Available in 12” and 15” sizes.
  • High color vibrancy
  • Lighter weight.

Cons

  • No remote control.

6. Sunwind Floating Pool Light

SUNWIND Solar Pool Light Outdoor Color Changing LED Ball Light Waterproof Swimming Pool Floating Lights with Remote Control for Pathway,Garden,Patio Decorative Lighting (8-inch Ball)

The Sunwind Pool Light comes with a different semi-circular shape, I find it better looking than the normal style, but it comes to preferences really.

It’s still a floating solar pool light so you can use it the same as other solar pool lights, but with changes in the style, you won’t be allowed to hang from a tree or in the yard.

The Sunwind Floating Solar Pool Light comes with a fine addition “A remote control” with four transition effects which may be the best final touch a solar pool light may need.

The colors are pretty bright with an array of 16 colors you can try out new light combinations while relaxing on your chair with the remote control in hand.

Two things to notice, the waterproof standard is IP65 which is the lowest of the products we have today.

So it may be better to reside for the Sunwind Floating Solar Pool Light if you know for sure you live in a stable weather area.

And also, the Sunwind Floating Solar Pool Light Is 8 inch which is also the smallest solar pool light we reviewed.

Pros

  • A stake instead of the looping hole if you want to stick it to the tree.
  • High-quality material.
  • IP67 waterproof.
  • The remote control is a fine addition.
  • A satisfying stylish look.

Cons

  • A stake instead of the looping hole, thus you can’t hang it.
